Playwriting
The Creatives
Through character-driven narratives, social satire, and big personalities, Martha wrote a full-length play called βThe Creatives.β
Made up of two acts and five scenes, unforgettable complex characters address issues of authenticity, social manipulation, believing in oneself, and the power of kindness and friendship. The play also delves into topics such as pretendianism and climate change, with a sprinkle of romance!
The Creatives is made up of several Indigenous and non-Indigenous characters/roles.
Think Golden Girls, Big Little Lies, and a touch of Superstore, but 100% Indigenous.
Pimootayowin Creators Circle at the Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre is a program led by the brilliant Ian Ross, a Governor General Award-winning playwright, that supports the creation of new plays by Indigenous artists/writers. Martha was a cohort member of the 2024/2025 season.
The Creatives was written through the Pimootayowin program.
Martha is currently storyboarding her second play, an Indigenous drama.
It revolves around a couple dealing with encroachment on their own territory and weighing a potentially irreversible decision.
